Ensuring that passengers enjoy a positive airport experience at St. John’s International Airport is one of the Airport Authority’s strategic objectives. To this end our Electrical & Mechanical Services are essential in maintaining a secure and comfortable environment for the traveling public. The electrical staff is responsible for the 1700 runway lights ensuring that each light is checked for serviceability twice a week. The 450 lights on our main runway are checked daily. They also maintain all other lighting and electrical in the ten buildings, parking lots, and roads that make up our airport as well as servicing 130 miles of underground wiring.
Our Mechanical Department services and maintains the 8 furnace rooms and boiler rooms and all air conditioning units on site. They are also responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all plumbing, dehumidifiers, conveyor belts, baggage carousels and overhead doors in St. John’s Airport Authority-owned and operated facilities.
