St. John’s International Airport Authority Announces Line-up for Air Show
June 25, 2009

Airshow planned to celebrate 100 years of powered flight in and 10th anniversary of the St. John ’s International Airport as an Authority.

 

 

ST. JOHN’S, NL, June 25, 2009 – St. John ’s International Airport Authority announced today that the Canadian Air Force’s CF-18 (Hornet) Demonstration Team will open for the Canadian Forces Snowbirds in the 2009 Air Show scheduled to take place on August 22nd and 23rd at St. John ’s International Airport. Newfoundland and Labrador ’s own General Rick Hillier has also been named Honorary Grand Marshal for this event.

 

In addition to the air shows planned for the Saturday and Sunday, the Airport Authority will host the Snowbirds at a dinner scheduled to take place on Friday, August 21st at the Delta Hotel. The dinner is open to the public and the keynote speaker will be General Rick Hillier, Honorary Grand Marshal for the Air Show. The Airport Authority has designated the Canadian Red Cross as its charity for the event and it will be recognized as such at both air shows and at the dinner.

 

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to host this event and to give back to the community we serve,” said Marie Manning , Director of Marketing & Community Relations with the St. John ’s International Airport Authority. “This is a momentous year for aviation and for the Airport Authority. We are looking forward to celebrating with a large number of families and aviation enthusiasts from our community.”

 

The Airport Authority is anticipating and planning for a total of 7500 spectators per show. In addition to the featured acts, spectators will have an opportunity to view a static display that will showcase varying types of aircraft and airport equipment. Concessions will be available on-site for refreshments and there will be entertainment for children.

 

The Air Show will be free of charge to the public. In lieu of an admission fee, the St. John ’s International Airport Authority is asking attendees to support the Canadian Red Cross. This charity will be collecting monetary donations at the entrance to the event.

 

The St. John ’s International Airport Authority’s 2009 Air Show is proudly supported by Provincial Airlines Limited, The Delta Hotel & Convention Centre (St. John ’s), Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Distance Education and Learning Technologies, Browning Harvey Ltd., and Government of Newfoundland & Labrador’s Department of Business.
